Raven IT is a leader in the growing movement to address the Diversity and Inclusivity problems plaguing the business world. As an indigenous-owned and -operated IT company, Raven is particularly conscious of the socioeconomic challenges facing Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) Canadians who pursue careers in IT. The requisite training and skills acquisition for a competitive profile can pose a financial obstacle to obtaining more highly sought-after positions. Such individuals, moreover, often do not enjoy ready access to reliable market intelligence or to industry advice regarding the necessary steps to take for professional and financial success in an IT career. As a result, Indigenous Canadians are severely underrepresented in IT, accounting for less than 2% of STEM graduates despite comprising almost 4% of the adult population. These systemic and socioeconomic challenges to indigenous persons have only been exacerbated, moreover, by the recent and severe effects of COVID-19.
Faced with systemic gaps in employment diversity, Raven, along with many other global IT companies, is already implementing recruitment strategies and hiring practices to boost workplace diversity. These companies recognize that apart from top-down changes in hiring practices and business relationships, unequal and unfair corporate treatment of underrepresented groups will persist, while employers will simultaneously miss out on a significant and proportionately untapped talent demographic. This shift is in turn precipitating an increased demand for both women and Indigenous talent, as Canadian owned and global companies seek to advance their expressed objective of fostering inclusion and workplace diversity as part of their recruitment practices. IT companies need to engage with diverse talent in order to sustain their growth, and Raven IT Services is committed to maintaining its place at the forefront of these ongoing corporate efforts to foster more inclusive workforces.
